DUCKS

I am down to just 4 ducks. I started about 6-7 years ago hatching them out from eggs for a project at the Nursing Home where I was the Administrator. These ducks lived at the nursing home and had the run of the yard with a kiddies swimming pool to play in. When I moved to the "farm" I brought the ducks with me. I lost several to predators as I didn't have a clue as to what I was doing out here in the "wilds" These 4 ducks have been through the mill with me. My daughter visited with 2 new puppies that thought ducks were for playing with. They got badly mauled before we could stop the pups. My son Scott helped me nurse them back to health as I was laid up at the time from a surgery. He took great pains several times a day to clean their wounds, feed and water them and eventually help them in and out of their swimming pool so they could clean themselves. Just recently my drake who's leg never healed properly from the mauling passed on. My black and white duck seems to have changed her status since the drake has gone and now thinks she is the drake. I find this very strange but interesting. I haven't a clue what kind of ducks these are just that they are ducks..

The white one is Maggie, the black and white one is Golley, then there is the fawn one with a ring around her neck she is called Ringo (real imaginative) last but not least is Daisy.

The ducks have finally moved on. So I am "Duckless in MO" I do not intend to replace them. With my current coop set up I do not have the facilities to adequately take care of them. I am keeping this page as a reminder of what "once was"
